Apple is set to reach out to customers who have older model iPhones and encourage them to visit their local Apple Store to upgrade. The event will begin May 8th and will ask users to trade-in their existing phone in order to get a deal on an iPhone 5s or iPhone 5c. Is the strategy wise? Read More »
Comments Off on Apple plans to recruit customers to upgrade their iPhone
The Apple iPhone 5c was supposed to be a phone that helped Apple fight off competition by introducing a slightly cheaper version of the phone, but sales of the device have so far been disappointing. Apple will reportedly try to reignite those efforts with a cheaper 8GB version of the iPhone 5C. Read More »
Comments Off on Apple iPhone 5c poor sales lead to cheaper 8GB model in Europe
The Apple iPhone 5c was originally thought to be Apple’s chance to release a low-cost smartphone to better compete with the many options Google Android offers price-conscious customers. That was proven to be inaccurate because the iPhone 5c, while cheaper than a 5s, is still an expensive phone, so what’s the point? The iPhone 5c was actually a smart move from Apple, according to the latest Kantar Worldpanel report.
Dominic Sunnebo, insight director at Kantar, reports that the iPhone 5s is outselling the iPhone 5c by a 3-to-1 margin in the UK. However, the iPhone 5c is doing something well: convince people to switch from Android to iOS. Sunnebo claims that its data shows most people who bought an iPhone 5s in the past few months were people upgrading from previous iPhone devices. What about the iPhone 5c?
“Almost half of iPhone 5C owners switched from competitor brands, particularly Samsung and LG, compared with 80% of 5S owners who upgraded from a previous iPhone model.”
No, the iPhone 5c isn’t cheap or cutting into sales of iPhone products, but it is helping Apple attract more customers who might have gone Android. Though the Kantar reports show that Apple is struggling to gain market share in Europe, the 5c is helping gain new customers.
