Orange releases job ad for engineer to work on new Apple iPhone 5

French mobile network operator Orange has broken the secrecy surrounding Apple's new iPhone 5 through a job advertisement, despite the U.S. firm's ban on its partners referring to the product before its expected September release. Orange, which is owned by France Telecom, is Apple's official partner in France.

Oh oh   Google buys Motorola Mobility for $12.5B

Google and Motorola Mobility Holdings  today announced that they have entered into a definitive agreement under which Google will acquire Motorola Mobility for $40.00 per share in cash, or a total of about $12.5 billion, a premium of 63% to the closing price of Motorola Mobility shares on Friday, August 12, 2011. The transaction was unanimously approved by the boards of directors of both companies.

The acquisition of Motorola Mobility, a dedicated Android partner, will enable Google to supercharge the Android ecosystem and will enhance competition in mobile computing. Motorola Mobility will remain a licensee of Android and Android will remain open. Google will run Motorola Mobility as a separate business.

Apples market value briefly tops Exxon Mobils

Apple briefly overtook Exxon Mobil Corp. to become the world's most valuable company on Tuesday, notching another milestone in a resurrection that has seen it transform from a maker of niche computers into a global consumer-electronics powerhouse. Apple reached a market capitalization of $343 billion at one point during the day's trading, while Exxon's valuation slipped to $334 billion. The moves changed the rankings of the top two companies, which had been separated by $50 billion in market capitalization a few weeks ago.

Apple became top smartphone maker worldwide in Q2

Apple became the world's largest smartphone maker in the second quarter, a recent survey said, as global shipments of all smartphones rose more than 65% from the same time a year earlier. Apple's iPhone accounted for more than 19% of the 106.5 million smartphones shipped around the world, International Data Corp. said Thursday. Apple beat out the once-leading Nokia Corp., which garnered 15.7% of the market share in the survey, dropping to third place behind Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., which represented 16.2% of the market.

Mobile data traffic costs to hit $370billion by 2016

Apple ruled to have violated patents in some consumer electronics products, but not iPhone, iPad

The U.S. International Trade Commission released details of an earlier ruling against Apple that said some of the consumer electronics giant's products had violated patents owned by a company being acquired by a competitor. The ruling said Apple's computers violated two patents owned by S3 Graphics Co., which is being acquired by handset maker HTC Corp. The ruling said Apple had not violated S3's patents in its mobile products, the popular iPhone and iPad devices.

35% of U.S. consumers will purchase iPhone 5

Anticipation in the consumer electronics world is soaring for the launch of Apple’s iPhone 5, which is rumored to be hitting store shelves this fall. PriceGrabber®, a part of Experian, just released the results of its iPhone 5 survey, revealing that 35 percent of consumers plan to purchase the latest iPhone upon its release. Of these respondents, 51 percent indicated that they will buy the smartphone within the first year of release, 30 percent will purchase it before the end of 2011, 14 percent will buy it within the first month, and 7 percent will buy it within the first week. Conducted from July 1-11, 2011, the survey includes responses from 2,852 U.S. online consumers.
