Apple has partial success against Samsung in patent battle

A Dutch court Wednesday banned certain Dutch subsidiaries of Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. from selling three of its smartphones in most of Europe saying they violate a patent of iPhone producer Apple Inc, forcing the South Korean handset maker to rework its logistics in Europe. The court, based in The Hague, ruled that Samsung and three of the company's Dutch subsidiaries violated Apple's patent on the scrolling method and the browsing gallery used in its smartphones Galaxy S, S II and Ace, but rejected all Apple's other claims against its South-Korean competitor, including violating registered designs, copyrights and style imitation.

Report claims iPhone 4S being prepped for end September launch

Apple Inc.'s Asian suppliers have begun manufacturing a lower-priced version of its iPhone 4 with an 8-gigabyte flash drive, Reuters reported Tuesday, citing two unnamed sources. The flash drive is being made by a Korean supplier, the report on the Reuters website said. Currently, Samsung and Toshiba supplies the flash drives for the iPhone, the report said. The iPhone 4S will have a bigger touch screen, better antenna and an 8-megapixel camera, the report said. The source also confirmed the iPhone 5 is being set for an end-September launch, according to the report.
