The agony of the wait is for just a few more days as French Hacker Extraordinaire pod2G has announced an untethered iOS 5.1.1 Jailbreak is just days away.

Turning first to an ever growing Twitter audience, pod2G tweets:

“Thanks to awesome work of @planetbeing and @pimskeks, we’re near ready for a release. Now it’s a matter of days.”

Great news has arrived for iPod 3G and iPhone 3GS owners looking forward to the 5.1.1 jailbreak. Pod2g twitted that he “found a way through for iPod 3G and iPhone 3GS users.” He also updated his blog with a list of tested devices for the upcoming 5.1.1 jailbreak.

Pod2g updated his blog with answers to frequently asked questions about the upcoming untethered jailbreak. The good news is that the upcoming jailbreak is expected to be released in a couple of weeks and it will be compatible with all iOS devices running 5.1.1 except iPod 3G, iPhone 3GS and ATV3.

The poll about releasing now or waiting for 6.0 ended with a 64% / 33% to release ASAP. Where is the link ? ETA ? How much % done ? etc.

As I said earlier in twitter, there’s still a lot to do to have a user friendly and well tested tool to install the jailbreak on end users devices. Expect a release in a couple of weeks.

Will it be compatible with my <any random iOS device> ?

It will be compatible with any device running iOS 5.1.1 except iPod 3G, iPhone 3Gs and ATV3 (right now, may change in a near future, nobody knows).

Why is it so slow to release now that the iPad 3,1 has been demoed?

There are 16 different devices out there to work on and to test. It takes time.

May I be a beta tester?

No, sorry. Only really trusted people (that can be counted on one hand) could have access to the jailbreak. I don’t want any leak to happen.

What if I offer you 1,000,000$?

After yesterday’s announcement and showing video of the iOS 5.1 untethered jailbreak on the new iPad, pod2g just tweeted that the upcoming jailbreak works on the new iPad running iOS 5.1.1 without issues.

According to pod2g, the new jailbreak is expected to be released in a few weeks from now.

Just a couple of days after MuscleNerd’s announcement on Twitter, the iPhone Dev Team released a new version of redsn0w. Redsn0w 0.9.11b1 includes a new feature which allows iPhone 4S, iPad2 and new iPad owners to downgrade the firmware on their devices.

From the Dev Team’s blog:

• The new feature is at Extras->Even More->Restore
• You cannot downgrade without the personalized SHSH blobs for your device at that lower firmware. You need to have fetched those blobs while the signing window was open, using either Cydia’s built-in TSS@Home feature, or with TinyUmbrella. The new Restore screen of redsn0w lets you choose either the remote blobs or local ones (for the earlier firmware). If you don’t know where TinyUmbrella put your blobs, TinyUmbrella has a button that will show you (copy them out of that folder and feed them to redsn0w).
• The A5 downgrade method actually updates to the latest firmware before downgrading to the earlier one. This process updates your baseband to whatever is newest.  DO NOT USE THIS METHOD IF YOU RELY ON UNOFFICIAL UNLOCKS of your iPhone4S. Those who used the temporary SAM technique to unlock their iPhones to specific SIMs shouldn’t be affected by this baseband update.
• This method can be fixed by Apple with a firmware update. It’s a (pleasant) mystery why they haven’t fixed it yet, because reverse-engineering of the restore ramdisk indicates they do know about it. It’s possibly too niche to bother to fix right now.
• The least-tested devices with this method are the iPad2,3 and iPad3,2 (because we don’t have those models). If you do and you feel like experimenting, please let us know how it turns out in the comment section below!
• This update involves a bunch of new redsn0w code. We recommend sticking to the previous version 0.9.10b8b unless you’re specifically using this new feature, until all the bugs are worked out! (Note: If redsn0w gets stuck at the ‘Waiting for device’ stage for more than 30 seconds, you’ve hit a pesky GUI bug…that will be fixed in an upcoming version!)

Just a couple of minutes ago, pod2g announced on Twitter that he successfully jailbroke the New iPad running iOS 5.1, and the best thing is that the jailbreak is untethered.

This announcement comes exactly a week after pod2g successfully performed untethered jailbreak on iPhone 4 running iOS 5.1. Hopefully we will see a public release soon.

The iPhone Dev-Team hacker, MuscleNerd, has announced on Twitter that upcoming version of redsn0w will bring some great new features.

The upcoming version will support restoring with custom IPSW and will allow users to downgrade their iDevices including: iPhone 4S, iPad 2 and the New iPad. This is a great news because at the moment only iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad 1, iPod touch 3G and iPod touch 4G can be downgraded to an earlier firmware. Users will be able to downgrade only if they have SHSH blobs saved for the firmware they are downgrading to.

Apple N Berry have been selling a free software tweak for $50. Now Apple has changed the way this software can work, the Gevey Ultra 5.1 SIM No Longer Works at all as the SIM used the SAM exploit. This has forced the company to make an apology and issue refunds.

Famous hacker pod2g started a poll on his blog this morning, asking his followers: Shall we hold off the jailbreak for iOS 6?

After the announcement on Twitter, well known to jailbreak community Grant Paul (@chpwn on Twitter) noted:

Holding off has never once worked before, so I’ll go with “no”. Luckily, that’s also what most people will choose.
