Epic Hearts is an extraordinary find for iOS gamers who love immersing themselves in the wide world of a fantasy RPG. And let’s face it, the App Store isn’t exactly overflowing with gems in that department. So many “RPG-inspired” App Store offerings are really “games where the character has skill points to collect” or some such weak approximation of what the RPG fandom really wants out of a game. You know what piggies are, no doubt. Woogies are wolves, which makes sense only if you want to name your game Piggy Woogy, and that sounds cute to you. Thankfully, there’s more to this game than the name suggests. It’s a matching game with a significant dose of action/strategy tossed in, and the combination makes for a serious challenge.

I thought I’d seen just about enough castle defense games on iOS to last me the rest of my life. There’s a trend for dumbing games down so much to appeal to the casual audience that’s been way overused in my opinion. Fantasy Defense doesn’t do that; in fact, with added RPG elements and fast-paced action, it should appeal to gamers who want something a tad more substantial. But it also has lots of potential to suck in the casual player, too.
