iPhone 4 Takes Part in Space Shuttle MissionOn June 8th, the NASA's shuttle Atlantis blasted off for its final voyage into space.  During its voyage Captain Christ Ferguson and his crew brought iPhone 4s.  The iPhones ran an app called SpaceLab for iOS designed by the engineering company Odyssey Space.  The astronauts are going to use the  app with iPhone's camera, gyroscope and sensors to run various experiments. And the instructions on how to carry out the experiments will be displayed on the iPhone's making printed instructions unnecessary.   One experiment will test to see if an iPhones memory will be affected by space radiations.

"If a smartphone can be proved to work in space,” says Chris Bridges, researcher for Odyssey Space Research, “it opens up lots of new technologies to a multitude of people and companies for space who usually can’t afford it." If you would like to simulate the astronaut's experience with the app, you can purchase it for $0.99 at the iTunes store.
