iPhone Deposit for Noble Prize Winner

The 2009 Nobel Prize winner for Chemistry, Ramakrishnan was asked to pay a deposit when his credit check failed to reach the expected score during his purchase of an iPhone from o2.  The scientist was suspicious that there is an element of racism at play since he can not think of a logical reason why he should be declined credit.  o2 spokeswoman Sarah Taylor said “I was dismayed to hear that Prof Ramakrishnan would suggest that this decision was in any way related to race.  Whilst we are honoured to have distinguished Nobel prize winner’s among our customers, I can assure you that every customer is treated exactly the same regardless of race, creed or colour and in accordance with the law”.

Sarah add that they believed the discrepancy was caused by the spelling or shortening of the professor’s first name “Venki”.

Ramakrishnan was asked to pay a three month deposit of £325  He has since sent letters to o2 complaining of his treatment.
