Video: iPhone 4 3D Tests

Heres a video of 3D test shoot with 2 iPhones and the Almost DSLR app for manual camera controls. Cameras were mounted vertically to get the IA under 2″. View this video with red/cyan 3D glasses.

We wanted to see how effectively 3D video could be shot with iPhones for an upcoming music video project. From this test we learned static shots on full manual work best, and any geometric corrections on moving shots would need to be keyframed. iPhone footage gets all compressy on camera pans and wobbly on handheld. Not always noticable in 2D, this creates all sorts of misalignment in 3D since they don’t compress/wobble in sync. Magic hour lighting also created too much contrast, which makes for more crosstalk. I’m curious to see how the new wave of mobile devices with twin lenses will handle these issues.

Consumer Reports Cant Recommend Verizons iPhone 4 due to signal problems

The Verizon iPhone 4 has a problem that could cause the phone to drop calls, or be unable to place calls, in weak signal conditions, Consumer Reports engineers have found in lab tests.

We subjected the Verizon iPhone 4 to a full complement of regular tests in order to add it to our smart-phone Ratings, available to subscribers. We also put it through the special tests we carried out last year on the AT&T iPhone 4 after a rash of consumer complaints about signal reception with that model. There has been no such outpouring of complaints about the Verizon version of the phone. In addition, to provide a comparison to some alternative models available from Verizon, we also tested five other Verizon smart phones that we rate highly: the Samsung Fascinate; Motorola Droid 2 Global; HTC Droid Incredible; LG Ally; and Motorola Droid X.
