Review: Mophie Juice Pack Air Rechargeable Battery for the iPhone

The juice pack air is a rechargeable external battery concealed inside of an ultra-thin, light-weight, protective form-fitting case. Having purchased the iPhone back in August 2009 it was rarely used prior to a month ago when I began using it as my main mobile phone alongside the Nokia N97.  The only fault I could find with the iPhone was the battery life, which would not take me through a complete day unless severe sacrifices were made such as not using it as an mp3 player and not using it to run Skype in the background or watching movies.  As such, I felt that I had paid too much for a piece of technology that I could not put to good use.

On New Year ’s Eve, I treated myself to the Mophie Juice Air rechargeable battery for the rather hefty price of £69.95.  However, I was willing to pay this sum if it meant that I could go through a complete day with my iPhone and using it to its fullest capacity to serve my needs.

The juice pack air claims to give you virtually double your iPhone battery’s capacity.  I tested the juice pack air consistently over a period of one week and found this was not the case.  On charging the juice pack air to its full capacity, I used it when my iPhone issued its low battery warning of 20%.  Using the juice pack air to recharge the iPhone, the juice pack air charged it up to a capacity of 79% before the juice pack was empty.  This average recharge of 60% was the regular charge capacity over the week and did not increase.  Therefore, the juice pack air was sufficient to provide an extra charge for the iPhone to last a complete day but was certainly not sufficient to provide one or even two complete full charges to the iPhone.  At the price of the juice pack air and the charging capacity obtained, I would not recommend it to anyone due to the price and false promises.  At less than half the price, I would consider it a worthwhile purchase for the 60% charge that it offers.  As it is, I returned the product and now look forward to receiving the Proporta charger in its stead.  (By the way, I bought a nice pair of Boots with the refund).
