I have had the Nokia N97 since June 09, being a dedicated symbian user since the conception of the 6600.  Recently I joined the enemy ranks with the purchase of the iPhone (aka Disney phone aka Jesus phone).  However, lets put the fanboyism aside and let me run through the AppStore applications I find of use to me (and that I actually use) as an iPhone user.  (Beware that I have become an AppStore fanatic and to-date my apps stand at 78). Outside is a pretty weather application which gives you an at-a-glance window view.  Skype, Facebook, Tweetie2 and Fring are social networking apps. I have yet to use qik – a video uploading app.  Last.fm is my streaming music link to the world.  Shazam listens to a few seconds of a tune and then lists the artist and track in recognition.  Guardian, FT and Sky News keeps you up to date with the news both local and far afield. P+plus keeps a lady up-to-date with her monthly menstruation cycle.  BT and Yell.com are both telephone directories with BT listing local numbers and Yell covering business numbers.  National Rail, Tube Status, London 09 tube and London Bus gives travelling information, connections, journey routes and repairs that may be affecting the travel service.  Ebay, Amazon, Ocado and Ikea offer shopping services.  E-gadget is an easy reader of the site in a dedicated app, quicker to load and easier to navigate.  PandoraBox keeps you up-to-date with discount sales of apps in the AppStore.  Torch – does what it says on the tin.  Dragon is a dictation to written text app.  Google offers their google services in one app, search, reader etc. IMDb, Movie Guide, TVGuide and Radio Times lists tv programmes, movies and trailers.  Eurosport – sports update service.  I have all the girly designer boutique apps D&G, Gucci, Zara, Chanel etc.  They give you details of fashion-shows, latest design  etc.

Google Earth, The Cloud-Wifi, rtm – remember the milk, Evernote, TomTom, QuickOffice, Instapaper, DropBox and an additional three to four camera apps I have yet to try, but will and intend to.   As yet I am not really into the gaming scene as I only have about six.  I have several ebook readers and classic library’s installed but again I have not had the time to get around to reading books.

I have filled 8 screens but on one of these is the Categories which allow me to organise applications into individual folders.  At such a time as I feel my AppLibrary has grown too large that the scrolling screens becomes ridiculous, this page will come into play.

And No! They are not the same apps repeating themselves.  Each app offers something different in terms of their facilities and services.  I have only been using my iPhone actively for a total of three weeks so I am still a novice as to what is available in the AppStore.

To be fair to my N97 I will list exactly what apps I have installed and actively using so you can see the different usage, if any, I had when I used the N97 as my dedicated mobile phone.  X-plore – file explorer. Gravity, MSN, Fring – Social Networking. Qik – as iphone.  Best screensnap – screenshot snapper.  Oxford english dictionary, Oxford english theasurus.  Handy shopper – shopping list.  Handyweather – what it says on the tin. Freesigner – application signer.  Google maps.  iMetro – tube destination.  Internet radio.  iphonesque – allows you to view web pages in iphone format.  BBC iplayer.  Joikuspot – allows you to bridge an internet connection.  Smartmovie – avi movie player.  Mobbler – last.fm scrobbler.  Nokia maps.  Opera mobile – web browser.  Shazam – as iPhone.  Sports tracker.  Youtube.  In addition there are quite a few apps that I access via the web browser for example train services.

How do you use yours?
